Wrestling's Shuminov Repeats as UAA Athlete of the Week

New York University junior Naum Shuminov earned the University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Wrestling Athlete of the Week award.

Shuminov won all three of his bouts at 174 pounds in helping the Violets to three victories at the New England Wrestling Association Metro Conference Challenge Duals, defeating Williams College (21-12), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (40-3), and Roger Williams University (32-3) to improve to 12-1 on the season.

Shumniov started his day with a pair of pins in less than a minute against opponents Williams (54 seconds) and WPI (37 seconds). Shuminov completed the sweep with a 16-7 major decision in his final match against Roger Williams.

This is the second straight UAA Athlete of the Week award for Shuminov, who improved his overall record to 16-11.

Ranked #15 in the Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Team Rankings, Shuminov and his NYU teammates will host the UAA Championships on Saturday, February 9, starting at 11am.
